What started it all.

A few of the books being read in the Gard home:  Naomi is reading many books as she just discovered chapter books but these are the few that we are reading together:  American Girls Friends: Making & Keeping them.  I highly recommend this book to any girl out there- even those above 30- know what I'm saying?!  The Mystery of the Double Trouble is a series which my mother-in-law handed down to us.  This series highlights the meaning behind the 10 commandments and seeks to teach life lessons to young readers like Naomi- and myself!  Jesse as always, is interested in anything science related.  Everyday after school he has been enjoying 175 more Science Experiments.  I've lost scissors, tape, paperclips, light bulbs and tonight even our table salt due to this book!  Another series he is enjoying is the Redwall Series.  He is currently fascinated by the son of the warrior mouse: Mattimeo

Josh is reading too many books to mention.  Every since I've known him he has had his nose in a book.  In fact this is how we first met.  I still remember the day...  no, it was not love at first sight.  In fact he blew me off after I questioned his decision to read on the school bus.

It was late at night right after a wrestling meet. We were all getting situated on the bus after being defeated once again.  It was a tough wrestling year. In the darkness us cheerleaders noticed a light in the middle of the bus.  I decided to investigate.  I walked to the boy who was using a book light and asked him what he thought he was doing.  His firm response: "What does it look like I'm doing?!"  All the while his eyes asked, "are you that big of an idiot?".  No boy had ever spoken to me in this tone.  I walked away in a huff and swore never to speak to Josh Gard again!

I'm so pleased that by the next wrestling season I had forgotten about all this nonsense.  Again it was late at night right after a wrestling meet. We were all getting situated on the bus after being defeated once again.  It was yet another tough wrestling year. In the darkness one boy was awake.  We started a conversation and have never stopped since.  14 years later we share this interest.  If you can't beat them join them right?  Here is what I am reading now.  Maybe I will write a little more about what I am learning through this book at some point but for now I must go converse with the love of my life.... if he will only put that book down!

  1. Oh, such a fun post! I come from a family of (mostly) readers. My brother loved the Redwall series, and I'm the one in my current family who always seems to have my nose in a book (or magazine, or newspaper...)
And I loved reading about how you two met. It's a fun story. :)

  3. So you were one of *those* cheerleaders, huh? *wink* I did wrestling stats all four years of high school and I have some of my best memories from those intense matches and the comradery that comes with being part of the team. Some great conversations were had on the bumpy, cold, yellow bus too!
Thanks for sharing your piece of history with us - I wish my husband understood why I enjoy reading so much!
