The Second or Assistant Photographer {Oregon Wedding Photographers}

If I had it my way I would have an assistant photographer at each and every wedding.  Not only are they helpful in that we can fully cover the getting ready shots when the bride and groom are getting ready at two separate locations and not just because it's great to get two different angles of the first look but also because of the help they can be when the schedule gets out of schedule and the details still have to be photographed or the family still needs to be photographed in 15 minutes flat.  I laugh as I type because the reality of wedding photography is controlled chaos.  That's my fancy name for it.  Control chaos under grace is my goal and so to have an assistant there to "quickly run back and get the boutonnieres the ushers forgot to put on"  (recent request I made of my assistant) or "quickly photograph the table settings details before the guests arrive" which is what I had to do at this particular wedding.

Being a team is crucial to a wedding day and an assistant photographer, one who is a seasoned wedding photographer in their own right, is vital.

This summer I had the opportunity to help my sweet friend Katie of Katie Campbell Photography at Postlewait's Country Weddings.  I had the privilege of photographing some amazing details and of course got to just be there to help Katie in any way.  That is one thing I love about assisting.  Blessing the main photographer by just doing whatever it is needed.  From getting ready shots to details shots to the dance floor.  To help even if it's just running to get them some water on a hot summer day or offering them a Luna bar as we move from location A to location B.  Being a main shooter myself I anticipate those tender moments with the couples but I also anticipate my main photographer's needs and try to the best of my ability to cover them and support them however I can.

So why is this important to you, my dear client/reader?  Well, let me just say that when considering a photographer or a collection please, please, please keep in mind how a second photographer might benefit you in the long run.  But enough about that... I just hope this causes some pause and consideration for insuring you have the best possible wedding coverage on your special day! Happy wedding planning season friends!  I hope you enjoy all these gorgeous wedding details!!
 I loved Alex's style!

Below Alex saw Kelton for the first time as he stood waiting for her, his back to her as to not see her until Katie gave them the go ahead.  Her bridesmaids helped her make her way to meet Kelton for the first time on the day they would become husband and wife.
 This bouquet.  I just couldn't get enough photographs of it.  Floral Designs by Alicia simply outdid themselves!

 While Katie photographed the couple I had the opportunity to photograph the bridal party.  These were some very sweet and beautiful girls!

 And I also had a bit of fun with the guys.

 I had to sneak in a ring shot with that gorgeous bouquet!

 The ceremony was gorgeous and touching.

 One more thing I couldn't take enough photos of... the chandelier in the barn.  It set the mood for a glamourous barn reception.

I failed to mention that Alex is an amazing event planner.  Can you tell she knows her work well?!!

This was such a FUN affair.  That photobooth was a hit and kept busy all night long.... even Katie and I got a turn getting in front of the camera and having way too much fun!
Thank you so much Katie for having me by your side.  I thoroughly enjoyed it!
