Fall Family Portraits {Tillamook Photographer}

On a bright and beautiful summer day we began discussing their yearly fall family session.  I love fall sessions.  And I love fall sessions with this little family.  Carrie always plans months ahead and books on a weekend when she can count on having the weekend open just to their session.  What photographer wouldn't love a dream client like that!  And what photographer doesn't just LOVE the beauty of fall.  The fresh air, the beautiful colors all around and the feel  of new beginnings as the kids go back to school and Starbucks brings back pumpkin spice lattes- my fave!!

One thing fall brings to the Oregon Coast however is not so welcomed; rain.  On the Oregon coast rain doesn't come alone.  It brings a friend named wind.

This is the story of a fall session in my mind's eye meeting the Oregon Coast reality of wind and rain.  And I'm not talking little rain fall.  I'm talking about step-outside-for-a-few-seconds-and-come-back-in-looking-like-you-just-took-a-dip-in-a-12-foot-pool kind of rain!!

Meeting in our beautiful setting Carrie and I knew we would have rain.  We came prepared for sneaking in rain breaks as needed.  Umbrellas, candy, treats and a movie were there as we might need them.  Little did we know we would need them for almost a full hour.  We initially stepped out to photograph just the kids and I got a few shots (5 tops) before it started pouring and we had to make our way back to the car.  We stood there, the kids in the car entertained and us adults debating whether this session would happen.

Sadly we finally had to call it after more than a half hour had gone by and the pouring rain wouldn't slow down.  Driving down the road following them to their house the sun broke out of those dark clouds and we all knew.  It was now or never.  So we quickly got the kids back in dry clothes and shot at record fast speed to get these images.  It wasn't in the spot we had planned on but that's how things go sometimes.  I still feel we got some amazing shots and can't wait to show the family all of them soon.

So now after my novel, here you go Carrie.  Your much anticipated sneak peek!  Thank you for being such a trooper with this unpredictable weather and for being such a dream client.  I can't tell you how much I appreciate you!! ~Xiomara
